Russian patrol ship to be stationed in Syrian waters

Thursday, April 5, 2012

Patrol ship “Smetliviy” of the Russian Black Sea Fleet will be stationed in Syrian waters till May 2012, a military-diplomatic source told Ria-Novosti today.

The “Smetlivy” left Sevastopol on April 1, passed through Bosporus and Dardanelles and is now heading to Syria’s Tartus, the logistic hub of Russian Navy.

In Tartus, the “Smetlivy” will restock its onboard supplies and let the crew have a short rest. For over a month it will then be performing tasks in the east Mediterranean, close to Syrian shore, the source said.
