Iran flexes military muscle

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Iran can give a harsh response to any aggressor that would attempt to breach its territorial integrity, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday.

Any troops will deeply regret their aggression and face endless shame if they ever try to encroach on Iran’s territory and its interests, the Iranian leader said at today’s Army Day parade and vowed that Iran was ready to defend its turf and sovereignty.

Ahmadinejad also pinned the security of the Persian Gulf region on cooperation with the neighbors.

Today, the relationship of the Shia Iran with neighboring Sunni monarchies is more than strained. The Arab Gulf states are feverish US supporters who have multiple times spoken against the Iranian nuclear program, stigmatizing it as a threat to the region’s stability.

Moreover, Iran and the United Arab Emirates have a territorial dispute over a number of islands, administered by Tehran.
