UN Syria mission to be boosted to 300
The United Nations Security Council has unanimously ruled to boost the personnel of its observer mission in Syria, which went under way with the arrival of the advance party last Sunday, to 300. The mission is to last 90 days, and the deployment will start as soon as Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issues orders to this effect.
According to Russian UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, the mission will include 4 Russian officers. Speaking on Saturday, he praised the Security Council resolution to deploy 300 observers as a ‘considerable achievement’.
