5.7 quake rocks Indonesia’s island
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake rocked the northwestern part of Indonesia’s eastern Papua Island on Friday.
The earthquake was centered 90 kilometers west of the town of Monokwari at a depth of about 20 km.
There have been no reports about casualties or damage.
The quake led to confusion among the local population as people left their homes in panic.
Indonesia’s seismology services reported magnitude 5.5 aftershocks in the Monokwari area earlier on Friday.
