Armed men fire mortar shell near Syrian cabinet building
DAMASCUS, June 10 (Xinhua) — Armed groups fired Sunday a mortar shell at an area close to the Syrian cabinet building in the capital Damascus, leaving material damages only, local media said.
The circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear, but media reports said the shell came from the nearby al- Razi orchards, which have witnessed several clashes between armed groups and government forces recently.
Apparently, the shell was aimed at the cabinet building, but somehow missed it, local reports said.
Witnesses told Xinhua that a group of UN observers headed to the site to examine it.
The 15-month-old unrest in Syria has become more militarized as clashes between government forces and armed rebels have hit a new high recently.
