Syrian Opposition ready for peace? – VOR

Monday, June 11, 2012

The head of the Syrian Opposition National Council (SNC) Abdel Basset Saida said that his organization would approve of the military intervention of international forces in the internal conflict only if they have the sanction of the UN Security Council.

Saida said he was ready to adhere to the settlement plan proposed by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and urged the international community to “act” against President Bashar al-Assad and make sure that the agreement is executed.

On Saturday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke about the necessity of holding an international conference on Syria. He was supported by British Foreign Secretary William Hague.
