The Albanian Parliament has elected a new president. This is a candidate proposed by the Government – current interior minister Bujar Nishani.

The five-year presidential term of incumbent leader Bamir Topi expires in July. He has decided not to seek a second term. Albania’s president is elected by the National Assembly by secret ballot.
