Moscow ready to host conference on Syria – Lavrov
Moscow is ready to host the international conference on Syria, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told journalists in Moscow on Tuesday.
During an informal meeting of the UN General Assembly Russia offered to host a conference on Syria which would comprise all countries able to influence the Syrian government.
Moscow says some 15 countries could join in, including the UNSC permanent members and the countries bordering Syria, Iran included.
Mr. Lavrov said that Russia`s initiative to host the conference ‘could become the only way to support the implementation of the UNSC resolution as well as Kofi Annan`s peace plan’.
