Monday, June 18, 2012

The Syrian opposition group known as the Syrian National Council has urged the United Nations to arm its observers in Syria.

On Saturday, head of the current unarmed observer mission General Robert Mood announced his decision to suspend operations because of safety concerns.

His mission consists of some 300 international staff, who have been monitoring compliance with Kofi Annan’s settlement plan.
