Sunday, July 1, 2012

According to international envoy Kofi Annan, the participants of the ministerial conference on Syria that ended in Geneva on Saturday proposed that the Syrians install an all-inclusive transitional government which would respect the legitimate rights of all groups and lead the country in the direction of modern multiparty democracy.
Mr Annan also said that the conflicting sides in Syria must hold fire and continue their efforts to bring about national reconciliation.

Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov praised the closing declaration adopted in Geneva for upholding Kofi Annan’s settlement plan.

World powers agree on Syria transition plan: Annan

World powers agreed Saturday on a power transition plan for strife-hit Syria, with the unity government to include members of the present government as well as opposition, international envoy Kofi Annan said.

A crunch meeting in Geneva agreed that the transitional government “could include members of the present government and the opposition and other groups and shall be formed on the basis of mutual consent,” Annan said.
