In Benghazi, a group of armed men seized the building, which houses the Department of Libya’s election commission. According to Reuters, the attack was committed by those fighting for the autonomy of eastern Libya.
The approximately 300 people who participated in the attack carried computers and ballot boxes out of the building and then smashed and burned them.
Their actions were accompanied by the shouting of slogans in support of the federation.
The incident occurred on the eve of elections to the National Assembly of Libya, which is scheduled for July 9th.
These are to be the first elections after the civil war, during which long-term Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and brutally murdered.
