Russia is opposed to using force against Syria – Foreign Minister
Russia will not support the idea of a UN operation of forcing Syria to peace, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press-conference following his meeting with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle.
The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that Russia would not be able to approve of such an intervention.
Lavrov also noted that Russia could not accept the position of some countries that provoke the Syrian opposition to refuse from a dialogue with the government, so as to justify a foreign interference.
Speaking about a possible peacemaking operation in Syria, Lavrov said that the existing practice requires that the Syrian government and other conflicting parties should agree to it.
