“Friends of Syria” meeting politically incorrect and immoral – Russian Foreign Ministry
The “Friends of Syria” meeting in Paris is politically incorrect and immoral. This statement was made in Moscow on Friday by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich.
“Russia, China and several other states that have a history of traditionally friendly relations with Syria and its people, refused to join the ranks of these so-called “friends”, since we are convinced that the one-sided format they opted for is not only politically incorrect, but also immoral,” – said diplomat.
A “friendship” exclusively with a part of the Syrian opposition can only exacerbate the existing conflicts and aggravate confrontation within the country. And that spells only one thing – continued bloodshed, new human tragedies, emphasized Lukshevich.
Members of the so-called “Friends of Syria”, meeting in Paris on Friday, called for greater pressure on Damascus, and demanded that President Bashar al-Assad step down. The meeting was attended by leaders of over one hundred countries.
Clashes in Syria have continued unabated for more than a year. According to UN figures, the total number of victims has exceeded 12,000 people.
