US President Barack Obama on Friday ordered the American flag flown at half-mast over the White House and all public buildings and grounds, as well as embassies and military bases overseas and naval vessels, to honor the victims of the mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado.
In a proclamation released by the White House, Obama said he meant the gesture as “a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless violence” in Aurora. The flags will fly at half-staff until sunset on July 25.

The midnight shooting spree by a heavily armed gunman at a Colorado movie theater left 12 people dead and 59 more wounded. The shooter, a 24-year-old James Holmes, wearing a gas mask and bullet-proof vest, hurled a gas canister into the auditorium and opened fire on moviegoers.
