160 illegal African immigrants saved

.

160 illegal African immigrants from 2 ships that were sending a distress signal in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Malta have been saved, the local media reported on August 16.

.
The first ship with about 60 people on board was accidentally discovered by a commercial ship that was passing by at a distance of approximately 40 kilometres south-west of Malta.

.
There were 2 corpses on board, and all the other passengers were very weak, dehydrated and exhausted.

.
The other ship, with about 100 immigrants was discovered by a ship of the Maltese Navy.

.

Those who were rescued said that they were citizens of Somalia and Eritrea.

.

Thousands of migrants from the poor African countries go to Malta in search of a living every year.

.

According to the latest reports, the number of African immigrants who have arrived in Malta this year has exceeded 1,700 people.
