Syrian President Bashar Assad has reaffirmed his commitment to dialogue with the Syrian opposition.
He spoke about this in Damascus Saturday after a meeting with international envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, their first since Mr Brahimi assumed his current job on August 31.

Mr Brahimi warned of serious regional and global consequences in the event the family of nations fails to douse the conflict in Syria.

The envoy also held talks with several Syrian opposition leaders. He subsequently told the press they had assured him of their desire to find a peaceful solution to the Syrian conflict.
