Russian patrol planes fly over Sea of Japan

Russian patrol planes have flown over the Sea of Japan where a Japanese Aegis destroyer has been deployed ahead of North Korea’s planned rocket launch.

Japan’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that 2 Russian IL-38 patrol planes were detected flying off the coast of the Sanin district. Read more…

Gusty winds blew across northern Japan Wednesday, fueled by a low pressure system developing near Hokkaido.

In Sado City on the Sea of Japan coast, winds gusted to nearly 160 kilometers per hour. In eastern Hokkaido, winds of up to 125 kilometers per hour were recorded in Rausu Town. Read more…

Deaths from snow-related accidents are increasing at a faster pace in Japan, as heavy snowfall hits northern parts of the country.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency says 51 people have died in snow-related incidents so far this winter, excluding traffic accidents. Thirty of them have died in the past 15 days. Read more…

Japanese weather forecasters are warning of gales and heavy snow in the north of the country.

A snowstorm is forecast to continue through Sunday. Hokkaido will have winds of up to 72 kilometers per hour. The Hokuriku and Chugoku regions will have winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour. Read more…
