Syrian army takes control of Duma town

The Syrian opposition reports that government troops have taken control of the town of Duma, near Damascus. The military had besieged the city for several days, firing artillery shells. According to opposition activists, dozens of people were killed in the fire attacks, many forced to flee the city. Those that stayed on had to face lack of food, water and electricity. Read more…

The UN peace-keeping chief says the escalating conflict in Syria is preventing UN truce observers from resuming their mission.

Informed sources say Herve Ladsous told a closed meeting of the UN Security Council on Syria on Tuesday that it’s too dangerous for the UN monitors to resume their duties. The UN mission was suspended on June 16th. Read more…
