On Friday night, Libyan rebels attacked the city of Brega where major oil terminals are under government troops’ control. The attack went on for several hours and ended in the attackers’ safe return to their base.

The assault proved part of a major three-pronged offensive that the rebels launched over 30 hours ago. The frontline is now some 10 to 20 kilometres from Brega.

Libya’s oil capital, as it were, – the city of Brega, has repeatedly changed hands in the course of the almost five month-long armed conflict in Libya.
