Libya:China denies sending arms to Libya

China denies sending arms to Libya, but it admits that the Gaddafi regime did contact Chinese weapons companies without informing the Chinese government.

A statement to this effect was made on Monday by Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu, who said that “Chinese companies did not sign any contracts for military trade or export of military materials to Libya.”

The statement comes as Western media reported last week that some Chinese firms allegedly supplied arms to Libya in violation of the UN Security Council resolutions.
