Laaska news Nov.20,2011
Libya’s interim Prime Minister Abdel Rahim al-Kib says that Muammar Gaddafi’s captured son Seif al-Islam will be tried in line with international standards.
The PM made a pledge to this effect during a news conference in the city of Zintan where Gaddafi’s son was brought after his arrest.
Saying that the country had not seen fair trials for the past forty years, al-Kib voiced confidence that the local authorities would take care of the high-profile defendant before the start of the trial.
ICC: Saif al-Islam must be transferred to The Hague
THE HAGUE, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) — Libya has the legal duty to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC), and Saif al-Islam, son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, must be transferred to The Hague, a spokeswoman of the ICC said on Saturday.
“We are in touch with the Libyan Ministry of Justice to ensure that any solution with regards to the arrest of Saif al-Islam is in accordance with the law,” Dutch News Agency ANP quoted a spokeswoman for ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo as saying.
An officer at the military council in Libya confirmed that Saif al-Islam, whom is wanted by the ICC, had been captured in southern Libya.
