The recent fire at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, which hasn’t been working since the catastrophe in April, was cased by a defective electric wire and inflicted no damage, the plant’s operating company says.

When the fire started, the plant’s operators immediately switched off the electricity. The system which cools the reservoir with spent rods, once used in nuclear reactors, was also switched off. The temperature in the reservoir, which used to be +25° Celsius before this, started to grow. The operators are afraid that it may reach +100° Celsius by Friday, but are hoping that they’ll manage to reset the cooling system by the end of Thursday.
